I attended a workshop recently with Deb Dana where she spoke about glimmers! I really appreciate that its a step away from gratitude as this can feel quite inaccessible for most people (not that it's not helpful, but you've already got to be in a particular place to practice gratitude). She described glimmers as finding moments of 'okayness' which feels much easier and I love that!
I really like how Sarah described our protection system in such a simple and concise way but it's still really informative. It's often overcomplicated so I thought her description was wonderful ❤️
Sara does an amazing job of breaking things down in a thoughtful and simple way. She’s now joined Substack so I’m hopeful that she’ll share more about this because it’s such important work 💛
I love the concept of glimmers... I read about it in another piece a few weeks ago and it reminded me of the power of these little moments. I’ve seen Sara’s work through IG and it sounds amazing. I am so fascinated in somatics and the nervous system.
As I was reading your words I was thinking how amazing a Glimmer practice would be alongside my gratitude journaling and then you said about it in the final words!! So I am going to remember to add this too! Thank you... it’s such a beautiful reminder to stay open to these little moments of magic!! Xx
Totally! Glimmer journaling has a lovely ring to it. I hope you enjoy adding it to your practice.
And Sara’s work is incredible. I had somatic coaching with her before starting IVF and credit it with helping me stay grounded throughout treatment and pregnancy. It’s as though I have a stronger sense of trust, safety and resilience. I can almost feel my way to decisions. It’s been so healing ❤️🩹
I love this concept of finding glimmers, and the impact that it has on us if we consciously look for them. I had a glimmer yesterday, I was in the garden with my youngest, he was happily toddling about, it was cool in the shade and it was so peaceful. I'll be looking out for more glimmers today!
I’ve found myself slow down a lot more to ‘notice’ this week and hope I can make it a habit. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day. But I love a tiny moment of stillness. Makes such a difference to my mood!
It's so lovely to kind of capture these moments and really sink into them, even when they are fleeting. Yes, it makes a huge difference to your mood doesn't it, and lovely to replay the glimmers in your mind too.
"I craft brands that fel like home." I'm not sure when you came up with that slice of genius, but that you absolutely do, friend. Love the quote too.
I just had to get up to use the bathroom, but was greeted by a beautiful sunrise. One of the last of a turning Summer, I'm sure. That felt like a glimmer of magic to me.
This is so lovely, and valuable words. I am taking an ‘open and calm’ course, which is exactly about converting fight or flight mode into calm-rest mode. It’s about being open and not fight what comes, be calm with it and see if you have the energy to look at it, not fix it. If you don’t, then nothing is so urgent that it deserves pressure. If you do, then breathe and meditate. So this wee notelet is so cosy, as it is exactly what I am working on. Thank you for yet another lovely post, Sarah!!🤍
Hello Sarah. I'm familiar with glimmers! I have a list of things that make me feel good, help me boost my energies and mood, and find peace in the hecticness of life. Here’s some examples:
I loved reading this Sarah. I use the word 'glimmer' a lot but had no idea it had such an important meaning and use in regulation of the nervous system. Yesterday brought glimmers around the growing bond between my children too, cuddles and tender moments like both of them lying down and falling asleep together (of course in between the triggering moments of conflict!) It makes total sense that glimmers are the opposite to triggers, I am looking forward to exploring Polyvagel Theory more, it could be extremely helpful for someone close to me. I will also start to really tune into the glimmers around me!
Yes, those tender moments are such meaningful and memorable glimmers. I love reflecting back on them. Sara has just joined Substack so I’m hoping she’ll share more about Polyvagel Theory and her work. It’s had such a positive impact on me!

That sounds amazing, what a beautiful gift to give yourself for life!!!! X
A gift is a lovely way to describe it 🥰

Absolutely. As I’ve been extra mindful of glimmers this week, I think I’ve made more of an effort to soak all of those tiny little moments up 💫

Adored working on your branding, Sasha, so that means a lot. Thank you ✨
I was greeted by the sunrise this morning too. And a stunning slice of moon 🌙
Lovely read Sarah. I’ve been glimmer hunting without realising it. ✨💛
It’s nice when it becomes a habit 💫

The course sounds brilliant, Nadja! I hope it served you well. And thanks so much for your encouragement. Always much appreciated 😚

*The excitement of new books from the library
* Fresh sea breezes
* Standing barefoot on the grass
I actually wrote about mine back in April this year https://ofmappery.substack.com/p/glimmers-feel-good-list
Ahh the smell of a library and old books. There’s something about it that transports me to a distant time or place. A true glimmer ✨
Oh yes, libraries do have that distinctive book smell, which is timeless.

Yes so important to reflect on those tender moments amongst the messiness!! Great news about Sara, very much look forward to finding out more xx
I thought it deserved a space here! Sounds like you’ve had a day full of glimmers 💛
