Loads and loads of beautiful recommendations! And so many for the reading list, to add to my ever growing, beautiful collection.
I’m always fascinated by folks who love the season of summer, and finds ease or restfulness within. I hope to one day feel that way about it. But for now, your summer is definitely my winter. I love how much the seasons and The Wheel of the Year teach me and guide in these lessons. And who knows, maybe, like I did in childhood, I will one day love summer again.
I often wonder whether adding to my reading list is wise…especially when I’ve already got a few teetering piles on the go 😅
And I feel like I need to speak to my love of summer...maybe in a post this week...because you’re not the first person to ask. Interestingly, I feel like I’m in a bit of a wintering phase right now...slowly drawing inward, which seems to happen around this time.
I mean it’s not always easy to slow down, especially with kids, but I try to find a little more calm if I can. Last week I got quite a lot done when it was raining here in Scotland, knowing I’d want to go slower this week. I was going to work today, but I felt quite spent, so I turned to the garden!
Spring is often busy for me, winter was crazy busy, so I suppose I'm using summer to soften things before autumn picks up again...and then it’s into a quieter winter rhythm. Must give it more thought 💛
Thanks Sarah - this is an interesting and varied list. I look forward to delving into the others. I’m humbled to have been name-checked , thank you very much for sharing my thoughts.
Wonderful list, Sarah! I’m slow reading the House That Joy Built right now and am really enjoying it. I look forward to digging into more of these when I need inspiration.
Oh lovely, I was just responding to Cassie about the same book because it's been recommended to me on a few occasions now! Thanks for contributing some ideas to the virtual TBR pile 😀
Ah I love this! I could talk about (and recommend!) creative books all day. They're such a beautiful balm for the soul. I hope you love The House That Joy Built, it's got pride of place on my bookshelf these days :) I also can't wait for our next writing circle already! Such an honour to put pen to paper and ponder with you x
A few people have recommended The House That Joy Built so I was torn between starting that or We Need Your Art. I mean I have about three books going at any one time so in theory I could read both! When is the next writing circle? Excited to join but Thursdays are my days with Cora so I just need to make sure she's entertained 💛
Friday 25th at 12pm your time 🥰 there’s a coworking call on Thursday 17th, too, but that's at 10am. On the book front, when I'm really torn I just flip coins to decide what to read 😂
Beautiful reflections Sarah, language surfacing with new tenderness — I really relate to this in this moment. Looking forward to joining you for Brand Camp xx
Thanks, Erin. It feels like an interesting time to be returning to more reflective writing. And delighted to have you join my wee summer email retreat 💌

Love that you've created this list from the comments. Will definitely return here if I need more creative inspirational reading.
Please do! Thanks for sharing those books, Miranda 😀
Thanks so much for sharing My Friend Fear on such an inspiring and encouraging list. :)
You’re so welcome, Meera. I’ve just introduced my daughter to your work and she loves it. The art, the words, all of it 🥰

I should be able to make the Friday. But not the Thursday as we’re off to play at a letterpress printworks!
Sounds lovely! I look forward to hearing about it!
